January 2020 General Chapter Meeting
Our monthly general chapter meeting is a great way for new members and interested volunteers to meet other engineers, learn about our current projects, and find opportunities to get involved.
Our chapter has big plans for the coming year, and a lot of opportunities for volunteers. If you're looking to take a leap into international development and service in 2020, our January chapter meeting is the best place to start.
At this meeting we'll be hearing from Peter Sturtevant, who recently returned from a 3 week stint on Grand Bahama Island with a four person EWB team. They advised the local government on lessons learned in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian, and how to better prepare for the inevitable next hurricane. Peter is hoping to share his experience with the chapter so that more members can get involved in the Engineering Service Corps.
The Engineering Service Corps is a program for experienced engineers who are looking for a change of pace from the typical EWB projects. Depending on the project, volunteers may spend several weeks overseas or provide design review services from home. The work may relate to disaster response, water sanitation and hygiene, infrastructure, agriculture, energy, or climate resiliency. Regardless, the work the ESC does aids some of the worlds most vulnerable populations.
